Food & Drink

Turkish meals are famed for being like feasts. The rich plant and animal life combined with regional differentiation means there is an abundance of natural ingredients and a diversity of food types. As well as this, being located at the cross roads of the Far East and the Mediterranean have meant these influences have shaped the fine cuisine.

Food in Turkey comprises a delicious combination of well balanced foods with good quality ingredients. It is customary to eat a variety of small courses with the most renowned dishes being lamb or aubergine based. The shish kebab is a staple dish, being made up of pieces of lamb grilled on a skewer with a variety of herbs. Patlican Dolmasi is stuffed aubergines cooked with fresh onions, garlic and tomatoes to add flavour.

Typical drinks include Raki, made of anise, or locally produced wine. Raki is known locally as the lions drink, as you must be strong to drink it.
