Costa Almeria

Costa Almeria is a highly traditional Mediterranean province situated on the untouched, south-east coast of the Spanish peninsula. Nestled between the soaring Sierra de Gador mountain range and the tranquil Mediterranean Sea, Almeria is a true reflection of the real Spain.

Almeria experiences a perfect all-year-round climate of 3,100 hours of sunshine a year which makes this Spanish place in the sun the warmest province in Andalucia. This beautiful weather ensures that you can make the most of the 200 kilometers of beautiful, golden, sandy beaches that stretch the coast of Almeria. The fresh, salt air combined with the soft, golden sand and the clear waters have seen over 25 of Almeria's beaches awarded with the prestigious European 'Blue Flag' for their high quality and cleanliness.

A sub-tropical climate and rich Mediterranean coastline makes the Costa Almeria the perfect place in the sun for seafood fans to indulge and enjoy the best that Spain has to offer. Garrucha, a beautiful and spirited fishing town, is renowned for its locally fished, large red prawns. It is well worth a visit to one of the seafood restaurants available along this 'Blue Flag' coast.

Further inland, Almeria has a striking desert landscape made up of sandstone and dried up river beds. During the 1960s, Almeria became a popular place for filming Spaghetti Westerns with the Tabernas Desert becoming a major draw-card for producers. Sets from these movies are now on display as part of the 'Mini Hollywood' theme park in the Tabernas Desert.

For the sport enthusiasts, Almeria offers a number of world-class golf courses for people of all standards to enjoy year round. And, for winter sports, the Sierra Nevada is Spain's number one ski location. Located just above Granada, the Sierra Nevada has the best snow and the longest season in the country.
