Food and Dining in Cyprus

Traditional Cypriot food is a combination of Greek dishes with Middle Eastern influences. There are a number of dishes for you to sample including Moussaka, made with aubergines, potatoes and mince or Kleftiko, with lamb and Mediterranean vegetables.

The easiest way to enjoy Cypriote food is by ordering Mezze. Similar to Tapas, the meal consists of a variety of local dishes including the Cypriote cheese Halloumi, juicy olives, stuffed tomatoes, chicken, shrimp, Homous and red pepper salads.

Cyprus also has a number of traditional sweets to try, Souzoukko is made by dipping strings of nuts in heated grape juice until it solidifies and is popular at festivals and fairs. Glyko is a type of preserve made from almonds, dates, apricots and cherries and is traditionally served with a glass of cold water.

Cyprus has a well-deserved reputation for its succulent produce, grown locally and in season fruit; you can enjoy an array of fruits available including strawberries, melons, figs, apricots, pomegranates and nectarines.

Some of the best restaurants in Cyprus are located in and around Paphos. Here you can find many international fast food chains along with seafood taverns located right next to the sea. You can also find restaurants catering in international cuisine and much more.

Cypriots are known the world over for their love of good food and Larnaca does its best to keep this reputation intact. Starting with a base of fresh seafood, local dishes reflect regional influences with a wonderful blend of exotic flavours.
