Larnaca
At 6000 years old, the city of Larnaca is the oldest city in Cyprus. It is a central base for exploring the rest of the country and the city centre is a few kilometres from the airport.
The 25km stretch of beautiful award winning beaches, peak temperatures of 32°C during the summer months and museums and sites within walking distance of the city centre, all contribute to the continual popularity of this prominent city.
Zenon Kiteos Street is the main shopping area and has a fresh produces market. The municipality organises daily events in Larnaca, which has visitors throughout the year.
There are a number of places to visit including, the Fort of Larnaca which was built by the Turks in 1625. Now a museum and courtyard, the fort is used as an open air theatre during the summer. The Angeloktisti Church, which means 'built by the angels', has a mosaic of the Virgin Mary in the centre of the apse.
